Tools to significantly increase your repertoire
Cognitive behavioral therapy is a significantly effective modality for anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, and ADD/ADHD. This training will give you the basic skills needed to provide effective cognitive behavioral play therapy techniques with understanding of the theory behind the treatment. In this 6 hour work shop learn effective cognitive behavioral techniques for use in the playroom, intervention strategies for use with parents and teachers, and effective conceptualization methods that will enable you to create your own cognitive behavioral play therapy interventions. An overview of the basic theory involved in CBPT will be presented as well as techniques in action with children/teens in therapy sessions. A fun, productive, accredited training in a playful, private practice setting!

In this workshop, participants will get an intensive skill basked introductory training on the language of child centered play. Although considered a basic skill, many clinicians working with children have never had a training specific to the language of child centered play. Do you know what to say in a therapy session when a child:
- Gets up to walk out of the door?
- Won’t stay Still?
- Makes a mess?
- Starts to cry?
- Is acting out aggressive play scenes?
- Doesn’t want to play?

Learn valuable language skills that will facilitate your ability to provide therapeutic intervention with children, teens, parents, and families. Road-Tested Play Therapy Techniques for Working with Boys
Saturday, May 17 – 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Boys ages 4-14 can be particularly challenging to engage in clinical work. This workshop will examine how the things we’ve come to learn about working with boys may be part of the problem. Participants will then learn a variety of play therapy and creative arts therapy techniques, used effectively with many challenging clients, for working with these boys.6 CE Play Therapy Credits available.
About the trainers:
Wendy Ludlow, LCSW, RPT-S, is the author of “Short-Group Play Therapy for children whose parents are separated or divorced”. She is currently co-authoring a book on the theory and methodology of the integration of energy work into traditional therapy/play therapy. She has worked for the past 25 years with boys of all ages in inpatient, residential, foster care, school, and private practice settings as both a clinician and supervisor. She is the mother of two children, both of whom have special needs. She currently practices in the N.W. Bronx, NY. SEE: TherapyWithaTwist.com.
Craig Haen, Ph.D., RDT, CGP, LCAT, is contributing editor of the book Engaging Boys in Treatment: Creative Approaches to the Therapy Process. He has worked for the past 15 years with boys in inpatient, residential and crisis shelter settings as both a clinician and supervisor. He is currntly in private practice in White Plains, NY. Supervision & CE Group 2013/14 DETAILS
Limited to 6 participants
This group meets monthly October – July on a Sunday morning. There is 1 hour of supervision, and 1 hour of play therapy training. Participants will learn about child centered play therapy, cognitive behavioral play therapy, and play therapy techniques. This is a great way to develop play therapy skills, to practice presenting in a safe group setting, to network, and to practice in an in-vivo environment. Please call with questions! This is a fun, intimate, productive group.

In this workshop, participants will get an intensive skill based introductory training on cognitive behavioral play therapy and effective strategies for beginning treatment. Myths about ADHD and other disruptive behavioral disorders will be debunked, as well as myths about treatment strategies. A parenting model will be over-viewed, and the importance of conceptualization of these children and their environments will be emphasized. A beginning skill set to utilize in the playroom will be demonstrated through video demonstration and experiential exercises. Although their are basic strategies considered critical to intervention for children with disruptive behavior disorders such as ADHD, many clinicians working with these children have never had a training specific to such skills and common pitfalls – particularly with an emphasis on keeping it in the realm of playful – evidenced – therapeutic intervention.

In this 6 hour work shop you will be taken on a journey into a think tank turned play tank and manifest your own play therapy technique/s. First your will learn several new play therapy techniques developed by this trainer, then you will be immersed in creative activity, and ultimately you will be given a template for creating your own play therapy techniques.
The building blocks of creativity will be discussed, and your imagination will be tapped. Leave with a booklet of all the techniques created during this workshop – including yours! Integrate child centered play therapy with cognitive behavioral therapy and other directive styles. Develop YOUR style and build your expertise.
